Diocesan Bishop Diocese of St. Joseph the Worker +Michael J. Hillis D.D.
|
Michael J. Hillis was born on November 28, 1952
in St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. At
birth he weighed 3 # and 12 ounces ! Spent
one month in an incubator until he was released
from the hospital ! Was baptized and raised
Roman Catholic. Started playing the organ in
church in seventh grade and continued on for a
40 year career. After graduating from High
School in 1971, continued with his education
and entered the seminary of the Franciscan
Fathers in Illinois.
Joined the Independent/Old Catholic Movement
in Florida and was ordained a deacon, priest,
and finally a bishop in 2004. In 2005 was
elevated to rank of Archbishop and made
Presiding Archbishop of the RCC Jurisdiction
by the Synod of Bishops.
After moving to Phoenix Arizona with a job
transfer, has moved the Chancery Office to
Arizona and has opened four parishes to date
with Reconciliation Catholic Church.
The Archbishop is very pro-active with
organizing the Independent/Old Catholic all over
the United States and worldwide. He has
signed several Inter-Communion Agreements
with other Jurisdictions, and is actively
seeking others to join in agreements as well.
Because of his efforts of unity, the Greater
Phoenix area now holds a Chrism Mass in
which all of the different Jurisdictions gather
together to celebrate the Blessing of the Oils.
This past Christmas, a Clergy Dinner was
organized and all the clergy from all over the
entire State of Arizona were invited to attend.
This is the first time this event has ever been
held, due to the efforts of the Archbishop.
The Year of 2008 has been designated the Year
of Evangelization by the Archbishop, and he
will continue his tireless efforts to invite more
people to share our faith !
